Ways to Improve Gas Mileage

by DEAN FORSTER

One of the tricks to owning a vehicle and making sure that everything is done in a way that works in your favor with traveling is to find ways to improve gas mileage. This will allow you to be more fuel efficient, save cost on the price of gas and have the capacity to enjoy more of the road without the higher use of gas. Finding ways to improve gas mileage will allow you to have the ability to keep cruising without worrying about where you have to go.

When you begin to look into ways to improve gas mileage, you will always want to consider the way that you are driving. This is the number one way that most will either raise up the prices in gas or allow them to get an extra dollar for every mile that they travel. For example, if you are driving on a highway, you won't want to go at a speed that is higher than 60 miles per hour. When you go past this, it uses up to 25% more in gas. If you are driving in town, staying at 40 miles per hour or below will also allow you to save on gas.

If you are doing a lot of around town driving, you are probably familiar with the problems that come with the extra fuel costs from the continuous stopping and starting as well as the need to slow down and speed up in different places. However, you can find ways to eliminate some of this and allow for better fuel efficiency. When you completely stop, your vehicle moves into a mode of hibernation. When you push on the acceleration again, it will cause the engine to have to reignite and will use more fuel. Avoiding stops, using yields on back straights and traveling the speed limit to prevent stop lights will allow you to avoid stops. If you have an automatic car and have to stop, you can do small things like putting your car into neutral in order to save on gas.

If you want to get into more tricks for driving and improving on gas mileage, than you can consider driving techniques that are used by those who have learned how to be more fuel efficient. For example, if you are traveling down hill, you can put your car into neutral in order to stop the engine from burning gas while you can coast. You can also coast through with a concept known as push and glide. This is where you accelerate your car to the speed limit, then allow the car to glide without using the gas until it slows slightly down. When it glides, there will not be any fuel that is burning.

Once you have these main concepts down, you can begin to work towards saving a few extra gallons with the trips that you take. By finding new ways to improve gas mileage, there will be the ability to continue gliding through town, combined with saving on fuel that continues to rise. You can simply do this by finding new ways to drive that will allow you to budget your gas in a way that will fit with your pocketbook while keeping up with the trips.
