Town Hopping in New York
by DONNIE KENDRICK
Law school was over and after some well-deserved vacation time, it was time to begin searching for the career I had been working for. Since most of our family and friends lived in New York City, I began the job search close to home, that is until my wife suggested I venture out into the other New York cities. As reluctant as I was (who would want to move away from NYC) I expanded the search to the entire New York area and to my surprise, ended up with a response from a prominent law firm in Syracuse!
After scheduling my interview, my wife and I promptly booked a flight to Central New York (she decided to come along and explore the city, just in case we end up moving there). Arriving in town, we were immediately met at the terminal by one of the firms associates! I knew this law firm would be an excellent choice for my career, but if they give their employees this much personal attention, it could definitely be the opportunity of a lifetime.
The gentlemans name was Bob and after making some quick friendly conversation about the flight, we headed to the car. Bob opened the trunk and we threw our bags in the back of his jet black Buick Lucerne before I slipped into the oh-so-comfortable front seat.
My wife and I were immediately blown away by the Lucernes elegant look (as my wife puts it), incredible leather interior and seat warmers (definitely a necessity on a winter day in New York). I got to know Bob during the ride and we chatted about his involvement with the firm for the last 3 years while my wife sat in the back seat marveling at how comfortable she was.
We dropped my wife at the hotel Renaissance down town and headed to my lunch interview with some of the other firm associates and executives. Bob had made reservations for us and about three of his colleagues at the BC restaurant in Armory square. The food was fantastic and the conversation was a mix of business and personal. I liked the energy from these guys and I could tell they were impressed with my level of knowledge. Overall, I could tell it was a great fit.
Upon returning to the hotel, I found out my wife had taken a taxi all around town to explore Syracuse. From the Lakefront to Clinton Square she didnt let any grass grow under her feet the whole day!
A couple more formal interviews and two days later, we said goodbye to Central New York and headed back to NYC. Its funny how we both liked Syracuse more than we imagined, but I guess thats a good thing since I was only home for a few days before receiving my official job offer. So, now that well be permanent Syracuse residents, weve begun not only the house-hunting process, but car-hunting as well!
Thanks to Bob, my wife and I knew just the vehicle we wanted. We visited CNYBuick.com, got a quote from one of the local Syracuse Buick dealers and scheduled a test drive for a brand new Buick Lucerne. Our new life in Syracuse will be different, but the future looks bright and our excitement is more than I could have possibly hoped for.
