When searching for a new car
by MAYA HANSON
Not so many years ago conducting a car search often meant taking a ride to the local car dealers in the area to see what they had to offer. Those looking for a used car simply had to read the newspaper to see what was available, or in some cases they might have spotted something for sale sitting along the edge of the road. There were naturally some used car lots, but they were of course not nearly as large or as many as the ones that offered new models. Either way, the process of hunting down a new or used auto was always very local. However i dramatically changed when the world wide web came along.
Personally I had never heard of or seen anything like the online car search before my neighbor conducted one when looking for a new BMW. Piece of cake to do a car search within a defined range of say 50 miles and also filter out on a appropriate price range.
There are of course a lof ot web sites offering this type of car search online, and a lot of of them are free to use. As you might undersand when it comes to time spent web based car searching beats searching in person, but you pay attention cause there is one drawback. There is no chance to test drive the car or truck before going there to buy it. The test drive can only be done once someone arrives at the dealership, but there you may decide they don't like it - maybe it didn't look as it did on the photos - and they will have to drive home and start their car search all over again.
However, for someone who has a fairly good idea what they want and which price range is acceptable, webbased car searching can be a great money and time saver.
