Hyrbid cars are the future of tomorrow but still there are many car manufacturers and car consumers who are against buying a hybrid car. There are people who are saying a complete ��no-no�� to hybrid cars.

A simple reason to this is a list of disadvantages that have framed the corners of hybrid car segment. Even though hybrid cars have many advantages like gas conservation, reduced pollution and economic gains, many people have listed their opinions against hybrid cars.

Compiled here is a list of opinions against hybrid cars or disadvantages of hybrid cars:

Expensive Price

Hybrid cars are more expensive than regular petrol and diesel cars. Honda Civic in India is available at a range of Rs 10-12 lakh whereas the hybrid version, Honda Civic Hybrid, is priced between Rs 21-22 lakh, double of the regular Civic. The reason for the expensive price is the complicated battery pack and high costs of maintenance. The price is too high to be affordable. Only premium segment can think of buying such a costly car.

Innovative Technology

Hybrid car is a complete innovative technology in the car industry. The performance of the car has still not been tested which further leads to unforeseen problems. Being new in the market, many are still unaware of the driving techniques, engine operation and other basic knowledge. Currently, only one hybrid car is running on Indian roads, therefore there is not much of check up and repair stations. Innovative technology is not supported by the Indian conditions.

Safety

Being new and untested, hybrids raise a high issue on safety. No single consumer compromise on safety and so many are afraid of buying the untested vehicles. These vehicles use high electric charge to run the car engines. In case of car accident, this potential electric charge is liable to cause unexpected injuries to the car occupants. Over and above all the new gasoline cars are loaded with high-end car safety features.

Light Weight

Hybrid vehicles are comparatively lighter and so they are more prone to accidents and damage. The possibility of the damage increases during storm, rain and other extreme weather conditions. Heavy storm can even blow off the hybrid car from the ground. If lighter than conventional cars, a small collision can completely damage the car.

Environmental Pollution

Even though hybrid cars claimed to yield zero emissions, these cars are not 100% environment friendly. Running of the car produces comparatively less pollution than conventional cars but it is believed that manufacturing of these cars produce more emissions. The eco-friendliness of these cars gets faded away when it comes to manufacturing a hybrid. This is because the manufacturing process requires more energy consumption and yields more emissions as compared to conventional cars.

Slow Acceleration

Hybrid car have lower performance than traditional cars. These cars lack accelerative power and make it difficult for the car drivers to keep a good driving pace on a freeway. The car definitely sells out because of lower fuel costs but then it has a mileage worse than some of the traditional cars. Large number of batteries also affects the performance especially during winter season because batteries become less efficient during cold weather.
