Know the Ins and Outs of Your Car
by CARAZOO INDIA
Knowing your car is very important as it will help you during on-road emergencies. When you car breaks down on the middle of the road or create any problem in driving, you have the solution only if you know the ins and outs of your car.
Compiled here is a guide that will help you understand your car thoroughly.
Car Engine
Car engine is the main component of any car. No matter whether its electric, petrol driven, diesel driven or hybrid car, all cars need engine. The primary objective of the car is to pull out energy from the engine oil and air and then convert this to the wheels kinetic energy.
The main components of the engine are pistons, crankshaft, valve train, and strokes. Pistons help to keep the oil out of the car combustion chamber and the crankshaft is used to rotary motion of the wheels.
Engine Oil
The primary function of engine oil is to protect grinding of metal components present in the car engine. It also prevents mixing of combustion gases and keeps dir and deposits away form the engine.
The nature of the engine oil is greatly influenced by its viscosity. Lower viscosity oils are better in terms of engine performance and effectiveness.
Car Battery
Car battery is one of the essential components in your car that helps you to start the engine. It comprises of two metals immersed in electrolyte. The battery helps to convert the chemical energy of the submerged metals into electrical energy through the oxidation-reduction process.
It also helps to stabilize power and provide extra power to electronic or electrical car accessories like interior lights, ignition system and so on in case of load exceeds. Regular care and maintenance of the battery is a must to keep your car running. Valve train is used to regulate the entry and exit of air and fuel. Three strokes, namely the compression stroke, power stroke, and exhaust stroke are used to compress fuel, ignite engine, and exit unused fuel respectively.
Spark Plug
Spark plug is an electrical device placed in the cylinder of the internal combustion engine. The primary functions of a spark plug are to ignite the fuel mixture and expel heat from the combustion chamber. It is used to convert the electrical energy of the fuel mixture to working energy by means of a spark.
Car Clutch
Car clutch plays a vital role in manual transmission. It mainly comprises of clutch plates and is used for basic working of the car. Clutch helps to connect and disconnect the car engine from the gearbox which in turns helps to start the engine, reverse gears, accelerate and even stop the car.
Car clutch holds a direct connection with both the engine and the gearbox. To start or stop the car it is important to connect or disconnect the link between engine and the gearbox. It is important to check the hydrogen fluid level of the clutch on weekly basis because its life is directly influenced by the level of this fluid.
Car Brakes
Car brakes are the main components of a car that regulate the kinetic energy of the rotating wheels. They work on the principle of heat and friction.
The main components of the complete brake system are brake pedals, tubes, hoses, brake fluid, master cylinder and combination valve. Friction is applied to the brakes by pressing the brake pedals. This transfers the pressure of the brake fluid to the master cylinder that is further passed on to a network of brake tubes and hoses connected to the wheels.
Wipers and Washers
Wipers are mainly used to clean the windshield during bad weather conditions. This is why they are called windshield wipers. This plays an important role in increasing car safety. Washers are subcomponents of a wiper that helps to sprinkle water on the dirty windshield.
The main components of a wiper, arm and the rubber blade, are linked together using a spring linkage. The rubber plate plays a major role to rub the dirt and pit from the car windshield (screen) by back and forth movement on the screen.
Tyres
Tyres are the base of any car. After all a car is an electrical machine that runs on four wheels. The life of tyres depends on the kind of the tyre compounds and tyre treads. Tyres composed of soft compound have better traction on road. Inflation also plays a vital role when it comes to fuel efficiency. Properly inflated tyres help to increase the fuel efficiency of a car.
