In the most basic terms, a car wheel is the car part that does the actual displacement of the car. It is comprised of the tire, which is the rubber that is wrapped around it for an easier propelling on the road, and the hubcaps. It serves as the main framework of the tires, supporting all its components to help it retain its form despite all the external pressures that the tires encounter along the road. Given this arduous task, it is the car wheels that need a lot of looking after and careful checking. As car wheels without tires cannot function, the rest of the car also cannot function without the car wheels. After all, they were made very sturdy and highly durable because they are expected to carry the weight of the vehicle and its occupants.
There are a lot of concerns when it comes to the car wheels. Thus one must be knowledgeable in basic matters to detect any problems quickly. For starters, there are three basic car wheel aspects that vary according to the design of the car's suspension. These are the wheel offset, aspect ratio, and tire width. The ��wheel offset�� pertains to the positive, negative or zero offset. Technically, ��offset�� means the distance of the car wheel's center to the surface of the disc at the hub. Therefore a zero offset refers to the design when the mounting surface of the car wheels is in the center of the wheel, while positive and negative pertain to the extremes. This aspect is very critical because it helps greatly in positioning the tire correctly. On the other hand, the ��aspect ratio�� refers to the ratio between the width of the tire and the height of its side wall. One should not buy car wheels or even tires that have lower aspect ratio than the required because this may lead to their easy deterioration. The correct aspect ratio enables the steering system to work in harmony with the car wheels, making every turn easier. Finally, the ��tire width�� affects one��s control of the tires. Some distinct car wheels have very thin tires, which prove to be easier to manage. Thus they are preferred for racing.
When it comes to replacement of the car wheels, one should remember that buying a new set should fit all the specifications of the vehicle. All car wheels are created differently from each other to fit all the various requirements of each vehicle and tire, as well as the whole car wheel assembly.
