Budget Car Rental
by GARY BROWN
Using budget car rentals could be the way to enjoy an independent vacation; using a car still provides a level of freedom that just isn't available when hiring taxis. The problem is finding a company that doesn't rent budget cars, you know, the sort that sound like they should be mowing the lawn. Well maybe not that bad, but sometimes, well most of the time, the people that assist you in car rentals just doesn't have your best interest in mind, so you end up paying a truckload of money for a pool of frustrations. That said; here are a few ideas you can use when organizing your rental car.
The first easy option is to be in control of what you spend by finding a budget car rental company online that lets you set your own financial limit. Do not dismiss this type of sites because they want your business and sometimes offer other incentives like unlimited mileage for example. If you are lucky and decide to book a fly-drive deal for instance, then you may find the rental company has upgraded your vehicle but this is less likely if you book with the airline themselves. The convenience of renting your car online at the airlines web site is usually offset by the higher charge you will pay.
There are some excellent budget car rental deals on the internet that can give you a great bargain. You will often find that there are discounts and extras available but only from the company's web site. Shopping around on the internet can be fun and save you money as there is almost always a special offer available with one car Rental Company or another. The biggest benefit to all this is it can take only a few minutes to do this if you are using the internet.
Sometimes, just when you think you have managed to get a really good deal. You find your credit card company has another surprise when it has organized a discount with the budget car rental company on top of any you have already arranged. Perhaps your frequent flyer program or military service can help reduce the cost of renting a car; it's a long shot but it's worth a try.
You would be wise to inspect your rental car before you drive off as you may find minor collision damage from previous renters which you do not want to pay for when you return. For you own peace of mind and financial well-being, check out all the vehicles controls and make sure everything that is fitted works so you won't have to pay for something that was faulty when you drove it away. As far as rental car insurance is concerned, check your own before you pay out more for the rental company's policy which you may not need. Rental car insurance doesn't cost much, but if you already have one why buy another; even though it may not seem important, driving without auto insurance can land you in a ton of trouble.
Remember that car insurance is always required when you rent a car.
