Since the gasoline engine, like all other Toyota engines, is fitted with variable valve timing with intelligence (VVT-i), the Prius has an optimized power delivery across the engine��s speed range.
This engine produces 76 horsepower and 82 pound-feet of torque; when it is combined with the permanent-magnet electric drive motor, which produces up to 67 horsepower, the result is a combined gas engine and electric motor output of 110 horsepower.
