by CELESTE YATES
The Toyota Avensis first came out in 1998, in Derbyshire, UK. It was the successor of the Carina E model. In 2004 it came fourth in the European Car of the Year award. It has been a favourite amongst holiday visitors and locals, according to Thrifty Car Rentals, in South Africa.
The car comes in a variety of models, and is a large family car. You can either have a 4-door saloon, 5-door lift back or an estate. With space for 5 passengers, the manufacturers ensured there would be enough luggage space for all. The petrol is a 70L tank, making it economical to drive long distances.
It has air conditioning, hydraulic power steering and is has automatic gears. On the safety side, the car is equipped with central locking, ABS brakes, as well as airbags, making it perfect for all ages in the family. The ABS brakes come with EBA and the upholstery is fire resistant.
For urban areas, or dark neighbourhoods, it should be noted that the Toyota Avensis has a courtesy door lamp for the front two seats. Both the front and back windows are electric with jam protection.
The car also has a 5 star Euro NCAB for safety. Some of the more advanced options on the latest model of the Toyota Avensis include head lamps with dusk sensors. The head lamps are also HID Xenon and the car does come with an electric sunroof.
Another optional feature is the front wipers that come with rain sensors. For technical people who want to bring their gadgets with them on holiday, the Toyota Avensis can play audio MP3 and is WMA file compatible.
It also has BlueTooth, and an IPod connection. There is an option for a mull map navigation system, with a 6.5 LCD Screen. The CD changer has a 6 interchanging CD capacity. For long distances, you might want to enquire about the Cruise Control option.
What also makes the car ideal for long distance is its general comfort. There are armrests for all, with the back armrests having a cup holder integrated into it. In the front there is a pull out compartment to hold cups.
Overall the car has a certain luxury about it, making it one of the more popular cars. Whether you are in South Africa for a holiday or visiting with your family, the Toyota Avensis is ideal to rent. All of Thriftys cars are the latest models and are only a year old. With over 2500 models to choose from, there is plenty of variety.
Thrifty has the ideal car for all needs, for the best value. The Toyota Avensis is just one of the family cars that can be driven in style in this beautiful country.
