The Wonders of Tail Lights

by GLADY REIGN

Simple as the lighting system of a vehicle may seem, it actually enables the driver to ensure safety while operating the vehicle. Like any other system, it has a lot of players such as the tail lights and headlights. Between these two, the tail lights assembly maintains more tasks. For starters, the tail lights are mounted at the rear part of the vehicle to provide illumination at the back portion. Also known as tail lamps, they always come in pairs, one light for the left side and another one for the right side.

The tail lights assembly is most useful during nighttime driving when there is poorer road visibility. Along with the other lights in the automotive lighting system, the tail lights are also helpful when the weather condition is bad. Snow, fog, and precipitation (whether heavy or not) can greatly affect the visibility of the drivers, hindering them from clearly seeing other vehicles or objects on the road. When a driver sees the tail lights of other vehicles, the automobile's current position, size, and speed are immediately identified.

The tail lights also enable a driver to warn others of the vehicles directional intentions such as changing lanes and turning left or right. The turn lights or signals, which are sub-auto parts of the tail lights assembly, help indicate the direction the vehicle is planning to take. By simply turning the left or right signal light on with a lever, the signal light immediately blinks. Modern vehicles are now equipped with the automatic cancellation of turn signals. When the driver has already turned the steering wheel back to its original position, the turn signal immediately turns off. These tail lights parts may also function as a lighting hazard during emergencies. When the lighting hazard has been turned on, both the left and turn signals blink simultaneously. In addition, the tail lights are also functional when the vehicle is in reverse mode. They are immediately turned on when the reverse shift has been chosen.

For all these functions of the tail lights, it is no wonder that the tail lights assembly is a standard for every vehicle. It does not only aid the operator on the road, but it is also equally helpful to other drivers, thus maintaining safety at all times.
