Passion for Pigskin

Whether you live in Nebraska or you��re a displaced Maverick, when college football season hits there��s no better way to celebrate your passion for pigskin than a pre-game party in the parking lot.
And while you can take your two-person sports car, van or SUV to the party, my vehicle of choice is always my GMC Sierra. Because of its roomy seating and bed that��s big enough for my barbecue, it��s the only truck we take to the games all season long.
The Perfect Party
With our friends and family in tow, we pack up the essentials for the perfect party. And because my wife and I are caterers, that always includes some seriously good eats. For those of you who are new to the Omaha Mav��s scene or need some tips to spice up your tailgating, here are some never-fails we always pack into the back of our GMC:
?Tortilla chips and a salsa buffet ?Piping-hot chili (Cincinnati or Tex-Mex style) ?Burgers (which are great topped with chili, cheese and mustard) ?Beef and chicken fajita fixins ?Tortillas ?Mexican-spiced hot cocoa
I know �C it��s not earth-shattering fare, but it is delicious. And because it��s mostly food that can be prepared ahead of time, all we have to do is fire up the grill behind our GMC and warm the food. Of course, the burgers are all cooked-to-order, but they��re not too time-consuming.
Because it��s a party for our friends who love the Omaha Mav��s almost as much as we do, my wife has a stash of red and white reusable dishes and drinkware that she brings along �C just to keep in the spirit of the occasion. We also toss some big foam fingers and team tchotchkes in the back of our GMC to give away during the team trivia game.
Really �C the party is all about fun (and a little good-natured rivalry), so even if you just get burgers from a fast-food joint, show up early and join the party! You might even find us hanging out behind our GMC. (If you do, be sure to try the chili �C it��s killer.)
