Gearing Up with Spoilers
by GLADY REIGN
It seems that no other automobile accessory can change the look of a vehicle quite as effortless and as noticeable as a spoiler does. While providing an extra function, spoilers can instantly transform the dull look of stock vehicles into more exciting ones. Commonly known as rear wing, the spoiler is manufactured as a styled piece of fiberglass that enhances the aerodynamics of a vehicle. On the downside, although spoilers can enhance the look of ones vehicle, only vehicles that accelerate at top speeds are fully able to benefit from the unique capability of this component. For most vehicles, spoilers are being attached solely for aesthetic purposes.
When choosing a spoiler that will best fit ones vehicle, it is important to note that different spoilers have different weights. Adding a spoiler on a vehicle can have an effect on its performance. That effect may vary depending on the material the spoilers were made of. Most spoilers are manufactured with light but hard-wearing polyurethane material. On the other hand, there are spoilers made from light weight steel or fiberglass. In this day and age, there are even spoilers that are made up of all these three different materials combined.
There are actually many spoilers available for one to choose from. As mentioned, the most common is the rear wing that is positioned on top of a vehicles trunk. As the rear end tends to lift when the vehicle accelerates at top speed, this spoiler provides the necessary down force. This force provides the vehicle with better stability by keeping the tires in contact with the road. There is also the front spoiler or air dam; it is mounted under the front bumper. Window spoilers, meanwhile, are specifically made for particular vehicles. Whatever type of spoiler it is, this functional styling component is a clever choice for practical drivers who want the look that match their cars and their personal attitude.
