Engine and Performance Standard configuration for all models includes a 3.0-liter, inline six-cylinder engine. The 328i and 328xi emit 230 horsepower; the 335i and 335xi, which are turbo-charged, give out 300 horsepower. Standard is a six-speed manual transmission; a six-speed Steptronic automatic is optional. This model offers fuel economy of 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
Safety Standard on all models are anti-lock brakes; traction and anti-skid control; and front side air bags. Side air bags are standard on all except the convertibles. BMW's active steering has been made standard on all rear-wheel-drive models. BMW's iDrive technology uses a console knob to control entertainment, navigation, communication and other functions, making the vehicle reliable in all conditions.
