Acura gets greater Technology over Luxury
by EVANDER KLUM
Automakers these days are continuously seeking to enhance their luxury end of the market. However, Acura chose to downplay that side of the feature in their mid-size sedans. The Japanese automaker is focusing on highlighting the technological side, creating a car that is more sport-luxury than luxury, in the form of the Acura TL.
The TL Type-S is a sure winner for the customer with the perennial desire for speed. Aside from being equipped with quality Acura oxygen sensor and automatic transmission, the Type-S cars are packed with 286 horsepower, 3.5 L, V-6 engine. Producing 255 foot-pound of torque, the compact TL could actually move when the aluminum pedal is depressed. There are even no traces of torque steer; despite the TLs being a front-wheel-drive car.
The power of the Type-S comes from either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Between the two, automatic seems to surprise the customers with its impressive selection of gears. It could be switched to manual in order to hold a gear longer when driving on winding roads. Besides, the paddle shifters are definitely easy to use and it gives shiftless folk the ability to run the vehicle without the use of a clutch.
The Type-S also comes with a performance-tuned suspension that collaborates with 17-inch alloy wheels to permit aggressive drivers to fully exploit the power upon driving through the smooth curves of secondary roads.
With added Brembo four-piston front brakes, the Type-S is provided with extra degree of stopping power. And, it works to temper the added power.
There is also a trip computer that provides information, which includes speed, time elapsed and average fuel usage.
Since the company has been aware of the heightening demands for fuel economy, the Type-S was made to offer the decent fuel consumption everyone desires. The vehicle uses eight liters per 100 km on highway driving while twelve liters in the city.
Inside, the Type-S is equipped with two-tone leather seats. The rear passenger seat is comfortable enough for two persons, with good legroom and headroom. There is also an integrated active noise cancellation system that helps in keeping the roomy cabin quiet enough to provide relaxing atmosphere.
The Type-S is provided with a considerably large trunk to easily accommodate two full-size suitcases along with two cabin bags.
The TL Type-S also comes with standard navigation system that is optional in the regular TL. Majority of the commands could be entered through the use of a toggle switch or touch screen. But, the voice recognition will be much better if customers seek for convenience.
There is also a six-disc in-dash audio system that provides impressive lows, mainly because of a dedicated sub-woofer and eight speakers. The auxiliary audio controls are found on the steering wheel. The audio system comes with standard XM satellite radio and a cassette deck. And, this system is Bluetooth-enabled for phone calls.
The Type-S also comes with a standard tire-pressure monitoring system along with several safety equipments, including front, front side and side curtain airbags with rollover sensors; anti-lock brakes; stability control; and traction control.
Overall, the Acura TL Type-S is a combination of power and technology.
